Do you perform full wedding ceremonies?

No. City Vows NYC specializes in legal marriage signings only. We complete the required legal portion of the marriage to obtain your New York City marriage certificate. This service does not include a full ceremonial wedding unless otherwise arranged.

Is this a legally valid marriage in New York?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All signings are conducted by a New York City licensed officiant and follow all legal requirements. Your marriage will be legally recognized.

Do we still need a marriage license first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You must obtain a valid New York City  marriage license before your signing.
Please note that New York City requires a 24-hour waiting period after the license is issued before the marriage can be legally completed (unless a judicial waiver applies). The license is valid for 60 days.

Do I need a witness?

Yes, at least one witness over the age of 18 is needed to sign your license. If you do not have one, City Vows NYC can provide one for an additional cost.

Signings are mobile and arranged by appointment. Details are confirmed after you submit your request during our free consultation.

Can a family member or friend officiate our wedding instead?

Ceremonially, yes. New York City requires a registered officiant to legally wed you. Many couples choose to have a loved one ceremonially officiate their wedding ceremony, in those cases, City Vows NYC can handle the legal signing portion only, ensuring the marriage is properly recorded and legal.

The legal signing itself typically takes 1–3 minutes.

Does “Book Your Signing” mean we’re paying immediately?

Accepted Answer

No. Submitting a request does not obligate you to proceed. No credit card is required. We confirm availability and details with you before anything is finalized.

Question 9

What happens after the signing?

Accepted Answer

Once completed, the officiant will return the completed license to the City Clerk within 5 days in the envelope you were given along with your license. The City Clerk will then mail your Certificate of Marriage to your home address listed on your license.
